The night racing season for 2022/23 comes to a close with an eight-race program at Cranbourne Turf Club on Friday evening. With rain forecast for the region on Thursday and with the track already a Soft 6, we anticipate we will be racing on a Soft 7 or Heavy 8 when the action kicks off at 5:45pm. The rail comes out 9m the entire circuit, which could favour those runners up on speed.
Best Bet at Cranbourne: Miss New York
It isn’t very often we make a first-starter our best bet on a program, but we like what we have seen from Miss New York at the jumpouts. The Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young-trained filly went stride-for-stride in the concluding stages with the smart Sunsource at her most recent trial, and if she replicates that type of effort come race day, she is sure to take some beating. From barrier three, Zac Spain will look to take luck out of the equation in the five-horse field, and with a couple of cheap sectionals over the 1300m, Miss New York will be given every chance to break her maiden on debut.

Next Best at Cranbourne: Wuddzz
The Henry Dwyer-trained Wuddzz was backed as if he was a good thing at Warrnambool last time out and won like he should have been $1.80. We expect he will only relish stepping up to the 2600m from the 2350m, as last start he was still doing his best work through the line. Ben Allen sticks on board, which is a massive plus, and considering he will get his favoured rain-affected conditions, look for the pair to take a forward sit from barrier five and stalk the lead throughout. If Wuddzz brings his best, he should prove too good for his rivals once again.

Race 6 – #5 Wuddzz (5)

Best Value at Cranbourne: The Javelin
Despite a couple of poor showings at his last two starts, we are hoping The Javelin can bounce back to form on Friday night. The five-year-old gelding does his best racing when leading fields up, and from barrier three he is sure to be given every opportunity to do just that under Remi Tremsal. He won with 60kg and 62kg on his back earlier this campaign, so the 61kg should be no issue for this assignment. If he can gain a relatively easy lead, we’re hopeful The Javelin can run his rivals ragged in the penultimate.
Best Value
Race 7 – #3 The Javelin (3)
5yo Gelding | T: Dean Binaisse | J: Remi Temsal (61kg)
