Best Bet at Kembla Grange: Smart Legend
Smart Legend is set to make his return from a 117-day spell and based on what we’ve seen at the barrier trials, we think a change in race pattern will do this son of Smart Legend wonders. His one start last preparation was disappointing, finishing last of seven gallopers at Warwick Farm on January 26. He jumped near enough to last and was never in contention before chasing home well enough to finish 3.5 lengths off the eventual winner. Trainer Les Bridge has taken the patient route since, giving this son of So You Think two strong hit outs, prior to this first-up assignment. He’s made a habit of missing the kick but has seemingly learnt his lesson, leading throughout his latest jump-out to score. Kerrin McEvoy should be looking to muster speed from barrier eight and provide he can get across comfortably enough – we think this is a terrific opportunity for Smart Legend to boot clear of his rivals, crack his maiden status in the process.

Best Value at Kembla Grange: Iron Man
Iron Man deserves a reward for consistency and we’re confident it pays dividends on Tuesday afternoon. This son of Exosphere was excellent last start behind another progressive type by the name of Plundering on May 10 at the Randwick-Kensington, producing an enormous effort from well back in the field. He finished into third position under Rachel King and with a severe lack of tempo to show his best, Iron Man was an impressive finisher. He’s drawn very awkwardly this time in barrier 16; however, with his traditional pattern to get back, we expect Kerrin McEvoy to get back to around mid-field with cover – from there Iron Man should be able to best his rivals heading for the line.

Race 8 – #4 Iron Man (16)
