The Warrnambool May Racing Carnival is finally upon us and massive 10-race program is set to greet punters on Day 1 of the three day carnival. With showers in the lead-up to the meeting and forecast for Tuesday, we expect the track to remain in the Soft 7 range for the first day, where the rail sticks to the true position the entire circuit.
The first of 30 races across the three days is set to jump at 11:20am AEST.
Brierly Chase Top Tip: Flying Agent
The Brierly Chase worth $175,000 is the headline act on Day 1 of the carnival with a strong field of 10 doing battle. We are siding with the evergreen veteran Flying Agent who will be looking to add a second Brierly to his record having won the race back in 2020. Lee Horner will look to have this bloke settled in a prominent position despite being drawn out in barrier 10. He is arguably the best jumper in the event and is more than capable of keeping up a strong gallop on the flat. We know he will see out the trip and any rain will only aid Flying Agent’s chances in this year’s Brierly Chase.

Best Bet at Warrnambool: Teofilo Star
Our best bet of the day comes up in the second of the maiden hurdles where the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained Teofilo Star will be looking to go one better than his last start second at Pakenham. The five-year-old gelding was nosed out by Circle The Sun on his jumping debut when needing to lug 69.5kg, but gets Campbell Rawiller on board for this assignment who gets him in with just 66.5kg on his back following the 3kg claim. He clearly has this lot covered on the flat and all he needs to do is repeat his jumping display on April 16 to be winning this. Teofilo Star is proven on wet ground and under a nice steer from Rawiller Jnr, we should be building a bank nice and early.

Next Best at Warrnambool: Theycallmebruce
We will be hoping we head to the Whaler’s Hotel on a winning note when the Danny O’Brien-trained Theycallmebruce steps out in the last. The four-year-old mare was only touched off late by the smart Karalee Rocks at Geelong on Good Friday and her debut win at the same track the start prior suggests this girl is more than capable of taking this BM64 out. The Street Boss mare will settle close to the speed on Tuesday under Liam Riordan and if the breaks come her way and Riordan can have her in clear air at the right time, Theycallmebruce looks one of the better bets of the day at Warrnambool.

Best Value at Warrnambool: Bazini
We will be looking to kick off Tuesday’s quaddie with a bit of value as the Symon Wilde-trained Bazini steps out over 2350m. The five-year-old gelding resumed with a second to Not Usual Glorious in the Terang Cup on a Heavy 10. He will no doubt take great improvement out of that run and despite drawing barrier 16 for this, he has gained the services of Nash Rawiller. He has a near bombproof second-up record with two wins and a second when running with a start under his belt and considering he has three wins and six minor placings on rain-affected ground he looks the one to be with. Considering he went around as a $3 favourite in last year’s Jericho Cup, we know the trip and conditions will be no issue and at a double quote with online bookmakers, we are happy to side with Bazini at BM70 level.
