Seven races are carded on a dual-code meeting for Otago Anniversary Day at Wingatui this Monday. The track is currently rated in the Soft range, with the first gallops race set down to start at 12:25pm local time.
Best Best: Exchange
The feature of the day is the Republicans Cup over 1500m, and it is also where we find the best bet of the day in Exchange. The six-year-old finished the gamest of fourths over 2600m last start when lumping 60kg, and he could have gone closer had his momentum not been stopped upon entering the home straight. He will be a month between starts leading into this assignment, so the drop back in trip will be no issue. He has an impressive record on his home track, and being only 1kg above WFA, he should just be too good for his opposition today.

Next Best Bet: Seven Eleven
Seven Eleven put in a big effort when finishing fourth two starts back at Riccarton, before a midfield effort last time out at the same track. In the latter run she found her fair share of trouble on a pretty testing track, but to her credit she didn’t throw it away and battled on strongly to the line. The key in this maiden mile is the addition of blinkers, while this assignment also looks somewhat easier than her past few runs. She can cope with any track condition and looks very hard to beat.

Best Value Bet: Prince Alby
Prince Alby was unsuited by a muddling pace when sent out as favourite last time out. After making a brief dab before the turn, he faded out, although he was not knocked around by his jockey down the home straight. He was a huge winner prior to that last run and was probably looking for a middle distance after that. He is up in grade but does drop 5kg in weight, and he’s unlikely to get as far back this time. Jasmine Fawcett steps into the irons and she has been in red-hot form in the South Island. This guy is too good to drop after the one average run, but we think many will, so hopefully there will be a good price to had.
