Pakenham night racing tips

What Pakenham Races
Where Pakenham Racing Club – 420 Nar Nar Goon–Longwarry Rd, Tynong VIC 3813
When Thursday, March 16, 2023
First Race 5:45pm AEDT

Racing returns to Pakenham Racecourse for yet another Thursday night fixture, where a competitive eight-race program is set to greet punters. Despite the constant traffic the track has received recent weeks, it has played fairly throughout, and we expect that trend to continue here with the rail out 9m. With a warm week forecast for the south-east of Melbourne, expect perfect conditions for racing on Thursday night on a track rated a Good 4. Racing is set to commence at 5:45pm AEDT.

Best Bet at Pakenham: Dancinginthedark

She is a favourite of ours, but the Mick Kent-trained Dancinginthedark might be on her last legs with us as she returns to the Pakenham 1600m. The four-year-old mare has been racing extremely well this campaign, but seemingly gets too far back in her run and leaves too much to do in the concluding stages. We are hoping that, from barrier four under Daniel Stackhouse, the Testa Rossa mare can settle one or two pairs closer in running, which will enable her turn of foot to be a bigger advantage than what it usually is. If the race is run at a genuine clip, Dancinginthedark looks to have a class edge on her rivals.

Next Best at Pakenham: Galactic Express

We will be looking to bow out in style as the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained Galactic Express aims to break a near two-year winless drought. The six-year-old gelding has gone down by the barest of margins in similar company at his last two starts, but we expect those fortunes to change on Thursday night. Matthew Chadwick hops on board claiming 2kg, which gets the son of Street Boss in with just 60kg on his back, and that looks to be perfect for him. From barrier three, we’re hoping Chadwick can have him lobbed in the one-one throughout, and if can keep him saved for one last crack at the leaders, where the horse cannot think too much about the result, then Galactic Express should prove too good for this lot in the last.

Next Best Again at Pakenham: Mootessa

The formidable combination of Lloyd Kennewell and Zac Spain will come together once again as three-year-old Mootessa looks to break her maiden at start two. The Zoustar filly did more than enough on debut when defeated by under two lengths to Miss Subtly at Bendigo, and considering she finished within a half-length of All Sassed Up and Refreshing, that debut effort looks better than it first might have. She draws to gain a suck run in transit from barrier five, and if she knuckles down inside the final 200m as she did over the concluding stages of the 1000m on debut, she can win this.
