The Stir Up – Australian Cup Edition

GRV’s Peter Quilty, Gerard Guthrie and Trent Langskaill provide their thoughts on some of the star greyhounds racing in Victoria.

Keep an eye on these, they are worth saving in your WatchDog Blackbook!

Quilts  Gents, the Unmissable Australian Cup Carnival concludes in tremendous fashion this Saturday night with an extremely competitive Group 1 Sportsbet Australian Cup Final.

Gerard  Quilts, I spoke to Brendan Pursell this week and he is amazed by the transformation of Captain Larry (Box 1) from SA provincial winner to potential Group 1 champion.

Quilts  You’re also catching up with Chris O’Brien, the trainer of Mortified (Box 2). She was brilliant from the outside draw in her heat, which was her 12th victory from 20 starts.

Trent  Could Indy Fido (Box 3) be the surprise packet? The dual Group finalist races well at The Meadows and he might get a charmed run through the first turn.

Gerard  Lisa Delbridge admitted to Andrew Copley that four is a lucky number for her and Mark. Can Landyn Bale repeat what Yachi Bale did in the Melbourne Cup Final and triumph from Box 4?

Trent  Lovaz Bale continued her affinity with The Meadows in the heats. However, she was the slowest heat winner, and she also has to contend with Box 5 in Saturday night’s final.

Quilts  Fernando Mick (Box 6) celebrated his 100th start in style last Saturday night. Can he avenge his narrow Melbourne Cup runner-up finish and win his second Group 1?

Gerard  Tony Rasmussen hinted that Victa Damian (Box 7) is the best greyhound he’s ever had a collar and lead on when we spoke last week. Imagine if he won a second Group 1 at his 13th start?

Quilts  It would be a tremendous thrill for experienced trainer Bob Douglas if Baby Jaycee (Box 8) prevailed. The fastest heat winner has been runner-up in two Group finals already.

Trent  Don’t forget the Group 1 Sportsbet Fanta Bale Super Stayers Final with Stagger Out Lee eyeing the Zoom Top-Super Stayers double and Mepunga Ruby looking to go back-to-back in the feature staying event. There’s also the star-studded Australian Cup Consolation.
