The Instructor for Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott has taken out the Listed Colts & Gelding Blue Diamond Preview at Sandown, and in doing the two-year-old took his record to two wins from two starts.
The son of Russian Revolution won impressively on debut at Pakenham when an odds-on favourite and returned to races at Sandown on Thursday and replicated his debut run with another win, albeit by a smaller margin in a better field.
Jordan Childs took luck out of the equation once again for the race favourite, as he pushed forward and took up and uncontested lead, before kicking clear at the 300m to run home and record a nice one length victory over the fast finishing Corniche.
2023 Blue Diamond Preview (C&G) Replay – The Instructor
Gai Waterhouse made the trip down to Melbourne for the big day at Sandown and she spoke post-race about her colts win in the Blue Diamond Preview.
“He has not put a foot wrong since the moment he came into our stable, he has been all professional,” Waterhouse said.
“He didn’t fly the gates, but he jumped well enough and Jordan (Childs) was smart enough to push him and once he got rolling there was no catching him.”
Waterhouse was asked what race they were thinking of heading towards, either the Blue Diamond Stakes or the Golden Slipper, in the autumn.
“We have already started to polish it,” Waterhouse went on to cheekily say about the Blue Diamond.
After recording his second win in a row on The Instructor, Jordan Childs spoke post-race about his potential Blue Diamond contender in the coming weeks.
“He’s improved of his last start, he’s a very professional type and I think he showed that here today,” Childs said.
“You gotta be pretty positive with him out of the gates to get him up into gear, and once you get him up and cruising you can start to control him and he really travels.
“Every time they got close to him, he wanted to fight on and keep going, so I think there’s still improvement there.
“Yeah I think so, he’s not very big but he’s a strong type and he’s doing everything pretty right so I can’t see why he wouldn’t handle it.”
Childs ended his interview by saying that The Instructor should be able to handle the step up to 1200m in a Blue Diamond should the stable choose to go there next.
The Instructor is now into a $5 second-favourite behind Kings Gambit in Blue Diamond Stakes futures market with online bookmakers.
