Devonport Cup Day will be the feature race day this Wednesday in Tasmania, with the $125,000 Devonport Cup heading up the nine-race program. With fine weather forecast for Devonport on Tuesday and Wednesday, we should have a great day for racing on the Synthetic track. The rail will be in the True position for the entire circuit, which should play very fair all day. The first race on Devonport Cup Day will jump at 12:29pm AEDT. Here are our free Devonport tips for Wednesday, January 11, 2023.

Devonport Cup Tip – Dramazing

The feature race of the day is the $125,000 Devonport Cup for the stayers over 1880m, where we will be siding with Dramazing from the Barry Campbell yard, who is coming off a good second behind Reward Achiever over 1650m at this track on December 23. This five-year-old mare has only missed the placings at this track once and she won her only start at the Devonport 1880m. After running home strong from the back of the field after the leaders set a slow tempo, this girl was very impressive making up many lengths and only went down by 1.75 lengths on the line. With more speed expected in the Devonport Cup on Wednesday, it should suit this mare down to the ground and if Anthony Darmanin can get her moving around the 600m mark, we should see her fly down the outside to nab the leaders in the concluding stages.

Best Bet at Devonport – Emily

Our best bet will also come from the Barry Campbell yard, where in the first leg of the quaddie Emily looks to be a very strong chance to record back-to-back wins after recording a nice win when first-up last start over 1009m at this track. This four-year-old mare has never missed the top two at her seven career starts to date, recording four wins and she is also unbeaten at her two second-up starts, which is how she will meet this race on Wednesday. Even though she recorded a nice win over 1009m first-up, she missed the jump slightly and sat at the rear of the field, so this mare will need to jump better to make the best use of her good inside barrier (3). If Craig Newitt can get her to jump with them and hold the one-one just behind the leaders, she should get every chance to peel off their backs in the final 300m and let down with that customary turn of foot.

Next Best at Devonport – Square Donut

In the final race of the day, we will be siding with the Dylan Clark-trained Square Donut, who will be second-up after running eighth of nine when first-up at Launceston over 1200m on December 14. Even though this six-year-old gelding ran second last at his most recent start, there is no need to worry, as he has never finished in the top three when first-up from five attempts throughout his career. Now that he hits this race on Wednesday second-up, where his record is much better (3:1-1-0) and he steps up to 1350m, a distance that he has recorded all three of his career victories at, it looks to be the perfect race for this gelding to return to the winners circle. From barrier six, Troy Baker will try to slot this guy into the mid-field and sit on the outside when settling. If he can get a nice cart into the race from the 600m mark he will be very hard to hold out late.
