Ten time Kiwi driving champion Dexter Dunn has gone four from four in North America.
At the prestigious Dan Patch Awards, the star reinsman has been voted Driver of the year for a fourth straight time by the US Harness Writers Association.
And this year was his best yet.
Stakes earned over the year exceeded $15m. His current record stands at 308 wins in 2022 from 1574 drives, with earnings of $15,197,579. That puts him easily on top, with Tim Tetrick second at $14,434,726. Tetrick has had 566 wins, with Aaron Merriman the most successful at 854 wins but with total stakes of $8,692,478.
Dunn’s year will always be associated with the world record-breaking deeds of Bulldog Hanover. Together they won 11 of 12 starts including the 1:45.8 at the Meadowlands which made him the fastest pacer of all time.
He also became just the fifth driver to twice win four Breeders Crowns in the same year.
In all Dunn won 59 races with a purse of $100,000 or more – no one else came close to matching that feat.
Dunn will be recognised at the Dan Patch Awards banquet in Florida on February 19.
