Darling Me retired
High class mare Darling Me has run her last race, after winning 13 from 36 starts. The valuable daughter of champion mare Adore Me was found to have some knee damage after her unplaced run in last Friday’s Queen of Hearts at Alexandra Park so will head to stud where she is all but guaranteed a hugely commercial career.
Cranbourne heads to USA..eventually
The Brent and Tim White-trained Cranbourne will do his future racing in North America, after a stint with David Aitken in Victoria. The Sir Lincoln five-year-old leaves these shores with a record of 12 wins from 47 starts and more than $200,000 in stakes, after being purchased at the yearling sales in 2018 for $6000. His last race here was a seventh in the Summer Cup on Grand Prix day at Addington on December 4.
50 win milestones
As well as Sam Thornley’s 50th winning drive at the weekend with his father’s horse Madam Ruler there were a number of other milestones over the past week. Trent Yesberg had his 50th training success with Ruby Malone, as did Don Burrows with Noah Magnific at Addington last Friday. Ben Hope drove on that occasion, and he also had three winners at Rangiora on Sunday with Eurokash, Krystal Delight and Latrell.
Yole makes history
Highly successful trainer Ben Yole has become the first trainer across all three codes to train 300 Tasmanian winners in one season. He brought up the milestone when Oneofthelads won in Burnie on Friday. His national tally stands at 372 thanks to the success of a satellite stable in Victoria.
Encouraging return to racing
After six years in the breeding shed Racing Hill has returned to racing in North America. The nine-year-old finished second at Dayton Raceway in 1:54.6. Before heading off to stud duties he won around $2m on the racetrack. “He’s sound, he looks great and his attitude is great,” says Racing Hill’s trainer Virgil Morgan Junior.
Final 2022 auction closes tonight
The latest gavelhouse auction closes tonight from 7 pm tonight and there are eight horses up for sale, including two race winner Mop. After a break over the festive season entries for the next sale are due on January 11.
