A hat-trick of wins is in the offing for grey mare Silverlings when she lines-up in the NZB Standardbred Fillies & Mares Mobile Trot (1980m) at Addington Raceway on Friday.
The daughter of Majestic Son has hit a purple patch of form and TAB bookmakers have duly kept her short in the market, installing her as a $3.80 favourite for the race.
Co-breeder, co-owner, and trainer Don Burrows has been pleased with his mare of late and said she is capable of extending her winning streak if she brings her manners once more on Friday.
“She feels the same as her last two wins in training. She feels like she will produce another good effort,” Burrows said.
“The whole family has got speed, right back to her granddam In Shot. They are not a bad breed, they are just a bit difficult to deal with, she is a bit hot.
“If they put their mind together, they can always produce a good performance.”
Silverlings is the fourth generation of her family Burrows has trained, all of which were Grey mares.
Silverlings’ granddam In Shot has been the family’s pin-up, with 10 victories to her name and a runner-up effort behind Take A Moment in the Group 2 Canterbury Park Trottting Cup (3200m).
Her dam Tuinfro won one race before producing Silverlinings, who with five victories to her name, is chasing down In Shot’s win haul.
“It is a good family, they have won about 30 races for me,” Burrows said.
“They are the only family we breed from and play around with.
Burrows will head to Addington with another member of the family on Friday, promising four-year-old Noah Magnific, who will contest the Betavet Prepare Mobile Trot (1980m).
The bay full-sister to Silverlinings has placed in one of her three starts to date and Burrows said it is only her manners that have been letting her down.
“She is a work in progress,” he said. “I thought she would have won the other night and my wife and I were quite disappointed that she skipped halfway down the straight.
“I thought she was going to bolt in the way she was going and then she got a bit wobbly.
“She is two years younger than Silverlings. The family doesn’t come right until they are five or six-years-old and she is only four.
“If she did everything right she could easily win on Friday, but you have just got to pray that she gets around and gets the job done.”
