Metro racing heads to Randwick on Saturday afternoon for a massive 10-part program. We’re looking at perfect conditions for the weekend with minimal rain forecast as we sit on a Good 4 track for raceday. The rail has moved out +5m for the entire circuit, so we should be in for a fair day of racing and hopefully every runner will get their opportunity. Racing is set to get underway from 12:20pm AEDT.
Best Bet: Frumos
It’s last chance material for this five-year-old mare in the final race of the Randwick card, with Frumos finding her way into our best bet yet again. She was unlucky again first up and never saw daylight when running in behind Ruby Tuesday on December 3 when beaten 1.6 lengths and jockey Kerrin McEvoy indicated post-race he had a lap full of horse still underneath him. She drew barrier one on that occasion and it eventuated to be her downfall, however, on Saturday there shouldn’t be any excuses from barrier six and the key booking of the in-form James McDonald taking the reins. The 1400m here looks ideal and with any luck in the run her form looks too strong for BM78 company particularly if key race rival Jewellery elects to accept for Canterbury on Friday night, the $2.30 on offer for Frumos looks a great price with online bookmakers.

Next Best: With Your Blessing
James McDonald has a terrific book of rides as always and we think he can salute in the third race on the card with the John Thompson-trained With Your Blessing. His last start effort at Warwick Farm on December 7 was strong when asked to weave between gallopers from back in the field when running into the minor money. He now finally gets to the 1200m third up in the preparation and the Randwick track should suit this son of Vadamos perfectly as it just seems to take this four-year-old gelding a long time to wind up in the straight. His best form can see him making it his third career win on Saturday with James McDonald looking to make his way into the race on a three-wide line with cover throughout, if he can manage that from barrier-eight we think With Your Blessing will be hard to hold out.

Next Best Again: Worthily
The fourth race is a BM88 contest over the 2000m and looks a nice race for Worthily to get a win on the board this preparation. His last performance behind race rival Mission Phoenix was outstanding considering the lack of tempo in the middle stages and eventuated as a race with horses only making minor inroads from the back of the field, however, this son of Point Of Entry stuck on very well to only be beaten by a half-length on November 26 at Rosehill. He now looks to step up to the 2000m and drops significantly in the weights to get in here with just the 55kg and should be competitive again with plenty of on-speed types in the race such as Zoumon, Mission Phoenix and Military Mission, Worthily should get nice run in behind the hot speed from barrier-three with Brenton Avdulla bidding his time before accelerating turning for home to score.

Best Value Bet: Superium
Our best each-way play of the afternoon comes in the second leg of the quaddie with the Team Hawkes-trained gelding Superium. We think this horse is going a lot better than what the market says with an amazing effort last weekend at Randwick behind progressive sprinter Sky Command on December 10 when going down by 2.4 lengths. He was well back in the field before storming home late and was the clear eye-catcher from the race along with Fox Fighter coming here on the one-week back-up. While his 1400m form may look average with eight starts for just two minor placings the horses he’s run in behind are Group level types such as Triple Missile and Ayrton both down in Melbourne last preparation, who you’d have to think would be well in the market if they were placed in a field like this, so at the double figure quote we’re happy to take a chance with Superium n what looks a wide open affair. Zac Lloyd takes the reins again here and we’re hoping he can jump cleaner from the gate than last start and find the one-by-one from barrier six and if he does Superium looks over the odds to us.
