Friday night racing returns to Pakenham this Friday with a very competitive 10-race program. The track is currently rated a Heavy 9, and with more rain on the way for the east of Victoria over Thursday and Friday, we don’t expect see anything but a Heavy track on race day. The rail will be in the 4m position for the entire circuit, and racing gets underway at 5:10pm AEDT.
Best Bet: Head First
Our best bet of the night comes up in the penultimate race of the night, where we are siding with the Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr-trained Head First. This lightly raced five-year-old mare will be looking for her third win at her ninth start, when she takes her place in the Benchmark 64 Handicap over 1400m. After two encouraging runs this preparation, it looks as though this race on Friday night is a very good race for this daughter of Headwater to record her first win of the preparation. This girl should be one of the runners that will relish in the heavy conditions as she has only won on rain affected tracks in her short career. From barrier two, Daniel Moor should be able to get her into the one-one or just outside the lead and be very hard to beat with any luck in running.

Next Best: Netanyahu
Leon & Troy Corstens will bring their five-year-old gelding, Netanyahu, back to the races after a six month spell in race five on Friday night over 1200 in a Benchmark 64. This son of Alamosa has been a good money spinner for his owners, running in the top three at nine of his 13 careers starts to date. Both of his wins have come on Soft and Heavy ground, while he has only missed the placings in one of those five runs on rain affected ground. This guy also brings decent first-up form, with two seconds from two first-up runs in his career, so as long as the Corstens team has him ready to go first-up, we should be seeing this guy go very close on Friday night.

Best Value: Sweet ‘N’ Spicy
In the fourth race of the day over 1200m, a full field of 12 lightly raced runners will do battle in a Class 1 Handicap. Of the 12 runners we will be siding with the Lyn Tolson & Leonie Proctor-trained Sweet ‘N’ Spicy who won very impressively over the same trip at Mornington on October 17. This three-year-old filly has been in some good races throughout her career, with all of her runs being over 1200m. This daughter of Thronum travelled well throughout her last start before pulling out at the 400m mark and going straight past the three leaders to break her maiden very comfortably. If Matthew Cartwright gets any luck from barrier 16 and he can get this filly into a good position around midfield, she will be rounding them up late to record her second win.
