The Cranbourne Turf Club will be hosting its annual Pinker Pinker Plate meeting on Friday night with a massive nine-race card to open the night racing season. The track is currently rated a Good 4, but after a day of rain on Wednesday and 5-10 millimetres of rain predicted on Friday we could be on a Soft-rated track by the time the first race kicks off at 5:40pm AEDT. The rail will be in the true position for the entire circuit.
Pinker Pinker Plate Tip: Nerve Not Verve
The annual running of the $100,000 Pinker Pinker Plate over 2025m will go at 8:45pm, where we will be siding with the Michael Moroney-trained Nerve Not Verve. This seven-year-old mare was very good in defeat at Moonee Valley over 2040m in the Group 3 JRA Cup behind Desert Icon on a Soft track. This daughter of Shocking is very good on Soft or Heavy ground, recording four wins and seven minor placings from 19 starts on rain-affected going. Barrier 13 doesn’t worry us because there doesn’t seem to be much speed in this race, so hopefully Jamie Kah can get this girl to jump and sit on the speed or even lead. With Kah sticking with this girl from last start, it fills us with more confidence that Nerve Nor Verve will be ready to win.

Best Bet at Cranbourne: Blazing Burj
Blazing Burj was very good but also very green on debut at Geelong on September 15, but we fancy her chances over 2025m in race two this Friday night. The Mick Nolan-trained filly warmed up late in her debut run over 1733m and wanted to lug in as she was put under pressure, eventually just missing by a head to Mornington Mask. This daughter of Pride Of Dubai showed that a Heavy track won’t worry her, and if we are on a Soft track early in the program, she may enjoy that even more. Michael Dee has chosen to stick with this filly, and considering he witnessed her antics first-hand last start, he will be proactive and hopefully get this girl into the winner’s circle for the first time.

Next Best at Cranbourne: Thought Provoking
Lining up in race six over 1600m, the Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr-trained Thought Provoking will be second-up this preparation after she finished fourth over 1420m at Flemington on September 18 on a Heavy 10. With three wins and two seconds from seven starts, this lightly raced mare will be looking to add to that winning record in a race that looks easier than her last start. Jordan Childs will take the ride on this daughter of So You Think, who he has a very good relationship with, recording two wins and a second from three rides last preparation. If this five-year-old gets any luck in running as she rounds the turn, her turn of foot should put her right in the picture to take out the fourth win of her career.
