First Race 1:30pm AEST

Spring is finally here and what better way to celebrate it than with an eight-race card at Sale? Runners will be racing on a track rated a Soft 6, whilst the rail comes out 7m the entire circuit. The meeting that was held at Sale on August 21 did not disadvantage those up on speed, but runners from the rear of the field were still able to make an impact if they were good enough.

The day of racing gets underway at 1:30pm AEST.

Best Bet at Sale – Along The River

The Mathew Ellerton-trained Along The River was unlucky not to claim an overdue win when second on the Pakenham synthetic on August 8, but we expect he will find himself back in the winners stall on Thursday. The four-year-old has chased home the likes of Fire, Mynumeruno, Joseylin and Clemenceau in his last five starts, so this looks to be the easiest race he has contested for some time. He finished a long neck off Mynumerouno and Joseylin at Moonee Valley in February this year and a repeat effort of the performance should see him have multiple lengths on his rivals that he meets at Sale. From barrier two, Daniel Moor will look to extricate himself off the rail and have this bloke in the moving line upon settling. If afforded that luxury and some clear air, the $4.20 on offer with some online betting sites is a ludicrous price. Along The River is clearly the class horse in this event in our opinion and should be bringing up a third career win.

Next Best at Sale – Toronali

The emerging pair of Julius Sandhu and Jamie Mott will combine once again with five-year-old mare Toronali who has been low-flying this campaign. The five-year-old mare won in impressive fashion at Cranbourne first-up, before running second at Geelong on August 12 when unleashing from the rear of the field on a Heavy 8. She looks to be a mare on the way up and with a strong affiliation with wet tracks, she looms as one of the better bets on Thursday. Despite drawing wide in barrier 13, Mott will most likely have this girl settled close to last, but armed with a strong finishing sprint, Toronali looks the one they need to beat in the penultimate race of the day.

Race 7 – Silk #8 Toronali (13)

Best Value at Sale – Feudal Empire

In the opening leg of the quaddie, the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained Feudal Empire looks to be the forgotten one in markets will online bookmakers. With a win and two runner up efforts to her name this campaign, the four-year-old gelding has been racing in more then good enough form to take out a race like this. The market has the race down to two chances, but with both of those runners first-up from a spell, we are anticipating the race fitness of Feudal Empire has him in a race like this right up to his neck. From barrier 11, Teo Nugent will most likely have his mount settled in the second half of the field, but aided by a genuine tempo and a strong turn of foot, Feudal Empire looks a great bet at a nice price.

Best Value

Race 5 – Silk #6 Feudal Empire (11)

4yo Gelding | T: Ciaron Maher & David Eustace | J: Teo Nugent (58kg)
