What Albury Races
Where Albury Racing Club – 16-46 Fallon St, Albury NSW 2640
When Thursday, September 1, 2022
First Race 1:40pm AEST

Albury will play host to seven races on the first day of spring on Thursday in what will be wet conditions. HorseBetting’s New South Wales racing analyst presents you with his best bets and quaddie selections for the program, which is set to commence at 1:40pm AEST. The track is rated a Heavy 10 and the rail is out 3m from the 1600m to the 1175m and then 6m from the 1175m to the Winning Post.

Best Bet at Albury – Sheila

We were keen to be with Sheila at Wagga last Thursday, but trainer Matthew Dale opted to scratch and wait for this race at Albury. The four-year-old mare by Adelaide won her only barrier trial on a Heavy 9, so the Heavy 10 shouldn’t be an issue on Thursday for her. She has drawn awkwardly out in barrier nine, but Nick Heywood will be trying to find a spot midfield with cover, allowing her to get into a bit of a rhythm and finish over the top. This is a nice race for Sheila to begin her racing career in.

Best Bet

Race 3 – Silk #4 Sheila (9)

4yo Mare | T: Matthew Dale | J: Nick Heywood (57kg)

$4.50 with Neds

Next Best at Albury – Scarlet Prince

Local trainer Mitch Beer will be hoping to start September with a bang, and we’re confident he can do exactly that in the fourth race of the day when he saddles up last-start winner Scarlet Prince. The four-year-old gelding was too good for his rivals on August 7 at Wagga on a Heavy 10, racing handy to the speed and skipping away under 61kg. The son of Casino Prince comes back slightly in trip from 1200m to 1175m and gets the services of jockey Simon Miller, so he should be mighty hard to beat once again. He can cross them from the nine alley and be the one to gun down.

Next Best

Race 4 – Silk #1 Scarlet Prince (9)

4yo Gelding | T: Mitchell Beer | J: Simon Miller (61kg)

$1.85 with Ladbrokes

Best Value at Albury – Morezmo

Allan McRae and Damon Budler combine in the penultimate with three-start maiden galloper Morezmo. The four-year-old mare by Denman wasn’t beaten far at all two starts ago when second at Moruya, before running a solid fourth to the likes of I Am Mighty and Pride Of Penraf – two horses that are better than country maiden grade. She’s drawn awkwardly in barrier 11, but she does tend to get back and with the track likely to be chopped up, the wider could be the better by this time of the afternoon. Budler has been on in all three starts, so the apprentice knows her well and the 1.5kg claim will be useful. Pride Of Penraf is for sure the one to beat, but the double figures is appealing for Morezmo.

Best Value

Race 6 – Silk #6 Morezmo (11)

4yo Mare | T: Allan McRae | J: Damon Budler (a1.5)(57kg)

$10 with Palmerbet
