It’s the last metropolitan meeting in winter for 2022 on Wednesday at Warwick Farm, and HorseBetting’s New South Wales racing analyst presents his best bets and quaddie numbers for the seven-race program. The track is rated a Soft 6, the rail will be out 3m for the entire course, and the first race is scheduled for 1:25pm AEST.
Best Bet at Warwick Farm – Conrad
It’s back to midweek grade for the time being for Kim Waugh’s classy four-year-old gelding Conrad, and boy does he look hard to beat. The son of Maurice was pretty dominant when winning at Canterbury first-up over 1100m on a Heavy 9 and then wasn’t too far at all behind Pizarro and Arbitration at Randwick on August 20 over 1200m. He comes back in grade on Wednesday to midweek company, gets the services of gun apprentice Dylan Gibbons and steps out to 1300m, which he should relish. We love the addition of the tongue tie for Conrad, while barrier five gives him every chance. This is ideal for him.

Next Best at Warwick Farm – Ebhaar
This is another galloper that comes right back in grade on Saturday. Ebhaar was a Listed winner on debut as a two-year-old in November, taking out the same race that Anamoe won 12 months earlier, and since then she has raced exclusively in Group 3 or Group 2 company. The three-year-old filly by I Am Invincible is lining up in her second run for the preparation having finished fifth in the Group 3 Quezette Stakes at Caulfield on August 13 when favourite, so we expect her to be really hard to beat in a Benchmark 72 with just 56kg. Tommy Berry is in the saddle for Peter & Paul Snowden, so she will be in safe hands. Provided she gets a cozy enough run from barrier nine, Ebhaar should be going close to winning this.

Best Value at Warwick Farm – Armalite
Annabel Neasham and Sam Clipperton combine in the opening race of the day with three-year-old colt Armalite. How this horse is paying close to $70 with some online bookmakers is beyond us. On debut at Eagle Farm, he worked home really well to run third behind a smart one in Green Shadows, and then nothing really went right at Ipswich at his second race start. The son of Zoustar has had three barrier trials in preparation for his first-up tilt, and those have been in and around subsequent winners Hawaii Five Oh and Zou Tiger. While he has drawn barrier 10, his racing pattern has been to get back, so we aren’t too worried about that. This is a nice race with a couple of handy ones, but Armalite is well and truly over the odds.
