Another week of racing in Victoria kicks off with an eight-race card at Benalla on Monday afternoon where the track has come up a Heavy 8 for the day. This will be the first meeting held at the track since April 12 and despite the conditions, the track should be in perfect order and every runner should get their chance if they are good enough to handle the heavy going.
BENALLA BEST BET: Chase De Ace
The Trevor Rogers-trained Chase De Ace looks to be a genuine mudlark and gets his preferred conditions once again on Monday. He placed at massive odds on a Heavy 8 at the Cranbourne 1600m two starts back and backed it up at the same track and trip on August 17. The track at Benalla will most likely suit this son of De Gaulle and gains the services of Arron Lynch once again. From barrier 11, look for the four-year-old gelding to be settled outside the leader and with race fitness on his side and a genuine love for heavy tracks, Chase De Ace is sure to give his rivals something to chase in the home straight. The $2.40 on offer with some online betting sites looks to be a perfect price to launch into in the opener.

NEXT BEST AT BENALLA: Savonia
The Leon & Troy Corstens-trained Savonia is set to return from a near five-month spell having last been seen in the Group 3 Auraria Stakes at Morphettville. The four-year-old mare had to do the heavy lifting and drag the field up to a clear leader in the race and did more than a serviceable job when finishing three lengths of the eventual winner. She chased home proven gallopers like My Whisper, Bon’s A Pearla and Mac ‘N’ Cheese and this is a dramatic drop in grade back to BM58 company. From barrier 14, look for Michael Dee to have this mare lead the field up and considering she has placed at both of her first-up runs, we expect she will handle the occasion on Monday and bring up a nice little confidence builder to kick off her spring campaign.
Next Best
Race 7 – #9 Savonia (14)
4yo Mare | T: Leon & Troy Corstens | J: Michael Dee (59kg)

BENALLA VALUE BET: Mr Scorefield
The Anthony Chibnall-trained Mr Scorefield has been in the money two of his three starts this campaign and looks to get a chance to break his maiden here at start seven. The four-year-old gelding chased home the smart Chester Warrior at Swan Hill on August 7 and despite being beaten over four lengths on the line, the run suggested a maiden win for him is around the corner. From barrier five, Michael Poy should be able to lob this bloke in the one-one or three pairs back in the moving line. He has a nice turn of foot and as long as he handles the Heavy conditions that greet him on Monday, then Mr Scorefield looks to be over the odds with online bookmakers.
