Highly underrated speedster Quinlan Bale proved ‘master marksman’ in The Arrow (350m) at Healesville on Sunday.
Trained by Daniel Gibbons, Quinlan Bale produced a perfect ‘upshot’ (last shot), taking out last year’s inaugural The Arrow runner-up Ferdinand Boy in Match Race 4.
Quinlan Bale, paying $10.20 as the overall winner, hit a $20,000 ‘bullseye’ and also claimed $2500 as a match race winner.
He defeated Ferdinand Boy by 2.75L in 18.98sec. It was his 12th win from 25 starts, including the past three in a row. And he’s undefeated in three starts over 350m up Healesville’s straight track.
Quinlan Bale’s next ‘target’ is the G3 National Straight Track Championship final (324m) at Richmond, NSW, on August 27. He qualified for the $25,000 to-the-winner event, defeating litter brother Nicolson Bale in the Victorian Straight Track Championship final (350m) at Healesville last week.
And it’s more than likely Quinlan Bale’s ‘bow and arrow’ will then be aimed at the forthcoming G2 Healesville Cup series (350m), which kicks off with heats on September 4.
Meanwhile, second placing in The Arrow – comprising four two-sprinter match races – went to Healesville track specialist Zigzag Cabang ($18.20). A winner of nine from 15 on this track/distance, he accounted for Healesville 300m track record holder Kepal by 3.25L in 19.07.
G2 Bendigo Cup winner Paua Of Buddy ($3.50F) notched third placing after ‘sinking’ Panama Canal by 0.25L in 19.10sec.
