Another week of racing in Victoria gets underway at Pakenham on the club’s synthetic track where an eight-race card is set down for judgement. In recent times it has been tough to lead throughout on the Pakenham all-weather track, so get that in mind when staking.
The day of racing is set to get underway at 12:35pm AEST.
PAKENHAM BEST BET: Be Be’s Canally
Despite being a seven-start maiden, the Julien Welsh-trained Be Be’s Canally looks a clear best bet of the day if he is anywhere near what he is capable of. The six-year-old gelding has had two starts on the Pakenham synthetic for two minor placings, including last time out when making up a stack of ground from the rear of the field to go down by just 1.2 lengths on July 28. With Stirrah set to make this a genuinely run 1600m event, the race looks perfectly set up for a backmarker like Be Be’s Canally to swoop down the centre of the track and blouse the leaders. The $5.50 on offer with some online betting sites is simply too hard to pass up.

NEXT BEST AT PAKENHAM: Joseylin
The Ben & JD Hayes-trained Joseylin returns to the racing scene following a 23-week spell and brings easily the best form lines into this BM70 over 1000m. The four-year-old mare was beaten a nose by Mynumerouno and Sniper Legend in races last campaign and in-between those two runs came two smart wins, both at metropolitan level. From barrier one, Jake Noonan will look to use the low barrier to his advantage and most likely stalk race leader Squizzy Mizzy wherever she goes. Joseylin is clear the horse with most upside in a race like this and despite not hitting the frame in two first-up runs, we are happy to side with Joseylin in the opening leg of the quaddie.

PAKENHAM VALUE BET: Big Darryl
There is no hiding the fact that we are a fan of the Andrew Homann-trained Big Darryl, and we anticipate he can make it a third win a row on the synthetic. He had to shares the spoils at Ballarat with Wardy Boy last time out, but made up plenty of ground from the rear of the field to get the job done in a dead heat. With plenty of speed engaged in this, look for Lachlan Overall (who claims 3kg) to snick bag towards the rear of the field where he can press go on Big Darryl at the right time. Getting in with just 59kg following the claim has him right in a race like this and at a nice each-way quote with online bookmakers, is one we are willing to give a chance to.
