Apprentice jockey Hannah Edgely rode her 50th winner at Cranbourne on Thursday afternoon, saluting aboard the Luke Oliver-trained Spanish Tides.
Fittingly, the Benchmark 64 Handicap was a heat of the Rising Stars, which gives apprentice jockeys the chance to race against one another without any senior riders in the race.
It has been a quick rise to fame for Edgley, who only started race riding at the start of the 2021/22 season, but she has now ridden in over 280 races while striking at roughly 17%.
Edgley told Racing.com post-race that she had set a goal to ride 50 winners by the end of the season, so she was “thrilled” to reach the milestone with three weeks to spare.
“It was a goal that I was aiming to get to before the end of the season, so I’m thrilled,” she said.
“Hopefully, now we can tick a few more off before the end, but I’m just so happy with how everything is going right now.”
Edgley has enjoyed a strong start to the month of July, with three wins coming from her seven rides so far.
