What Cranbourne Races
Where Cranbourne Turf Club – 50 Grant St, Cranbourne VIC 3977
When Wednesday, June 22, 2022
First Race 12:25pm AEST

Eight races are scheduled at Cranbourne on Wednesday with gallopers running on a Heavy 8 surface. The first race looks to be a tricky affair for punters as the two-year-old maidens kick things off at 12:25pm AEST, so we might leave that race alone. The quaddie starts in race five at 2:45pm, while the last race is scheduled to go at 4:30pm for the three-year-olds and upwards.

BEST BET: ARRIVA DIVA

Arriva Diva gets a 3kg break with Matthew Chadwick in the saddle, and we think that will be enough to get a positive result in this race. We liked her Donald win after she settled on pace back on November 14 last year and she has been cautiously managed since by leading trainers Ciaron Maher & David Eustace. Her Echuca victory was similar after settling in the top three, and we think Chadwick will be positive with her here after two recent steady jumpouts. Her last-start eighth at Sandown wasn’t as bad as it looks on screen; it was just the last 50m that got her there. She is back to 1300m for this race and can run it out strongly. Miss Gobcain for Mark Webb has won four of 15 and will be one to watch in the run.

NEXT BEST: ROTOKURA

We believe that barrier one may help this Robbie Griffiths & Mathew de Kock-trained gelding. He started at each-way odds when third last start when making up steady ground late, and we think if he can save a length or two on the rails this time, he will go very close at similar odds. He is lightly raced and should have matured over the last preparation, while this race doesn’t seem overly hard. Lucky Sun and Nerrina Lolita have both shown a bit of ability having placed twice each, so they will have to be respected.

BEST VALUE: BISHOP

Despite running poorly for Nikki Burke last start when unplaced, we think Bishop deserves another chance here. We liked his debut run when third, beaten less than a length. Before that he had a winning jumpout at Cranbourne and looked like a ready-to-go racehorse. In fact, he’s had six official jumpouts in total now, so we think he should be more than ready for another top-three finish. He has no exposed form on Heavy tracks, so we will have to trust that he is capable if he runs.
