Gold Coast trainer Michael Costa has bowed out as a winner, as The Catch saluted in fine style on Wednesday afternoon at Doomben.
The consistent trainer is bound for Dubai, where he will lead the training operation for owner Sheikh Ahmed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
On Wednesday, Costa saddled up his final runner on Australian soil, with his regular rider Jag Guthman-Chester in the saddle.
In what was a fitting send off – despite the betting drift – The Catch proved far too good, giving Costa and his famous maroon and black silks one final victory.
Guthman-Chester won on Costa’s horses on 52 individual occasions, with the duo proving to be one of the most successful combinations in the country, while Costa himself trained at 20% throughout his training career.
While Costa wasn’t on course for Wednesday’s win, one of his stable representatives said he was “the best boss” to work for during her three years under his management.
Guthman-Chester also shared an image to his Instagram story on Wednesday morning, thanking him for the winners throughout his career.
“It’s a pleasure to be on board and hoping to send him off with a winner,” the jockey wrote.
“Thank you for all the winners along our journey mate!!”
