Exciting prospect Aston Komuni was a dominant winner of last night’s $8,400 Warragul Breeders Classic Final (460m).
Connections claimed a first prize of $5,600 as well as a choice of three stud services on offer, with owner Ray Borda – the man behind the powerful ‘Aston’ greyhounds – settling on former Sandown Park track record holder Hooked On Scotch.
“Ray went for Hooked On Scotch because he liked his damline and he has heard good early reports on his pups,” said trainer Ian Garland, pictured above with Aston Komuni and Warragul Greyhound Club Manager, Tony Mitchell.
The Warragul Breeders Classic is a Restricted Win event open to female greyhounds with 1-6 wins.

Stud services to TAB Melbourne Cup winner Hard Style Rico and Victorian Greyhound of the Year Shima Shine were also up for grabs, with connections of minor placegetters Lillico Nikki (Donald Rhodes) and Bella Sugar (Lisa Delbridge) sharing the spoils.
Garland was delighted with the all-the-way victory by Aston Komuni, her sixth win from 21 starts.
“I’ve put Aston Komuni in a number of big races, and she ran 4th in the (Group 3) Launching Pad Final and 4th in the Shepparton Oaks,” he said.
“She is yet to win in town but she has performed well at both city tracks.”
Garland said he would next tackle the Group 1 Sapphire Crown with Aston Komuni, before setting her for the rich VicBred Pink Diamond series in June along with star kennelmate Aston Flame, who is currently sidelined with injury.
The Warragul Greyhound Club thanked the studmasters of Hooked On Scotch, Hard Style Rico and Shima Shine for donating the services.
