HorseBetting’s New South Wales racing analyst presents his best bets and quaddie selections for the eight-race program at Wyong on Thursday, April 28. Wet tracks have plagued the state in recent months, and that is once again what we have to deal with – a Heavy 9. The rail is out 4m from the 1350m to the 1000m mark, and then just 1m for the remainder of the course. The first of eight races is scheduled to jump at 12:20pm AEST.
Best Bet at Wyong – Oxford Vision
Kim Waugh and Rory Hutchings combine in the opener with a nice three-year-old gelding in Oxford Vision. The son of Panzer Division has raced four times for three seconds and a third, with those runs all coming behind some handy ones. In his past two outings, the gelding has been beaten by a lip – both at this track and distance – so we are confident that he can go one better on Thursday. Antonio Giovanni was the last horse to beat Oxford Vision, and that galloper has some nice Group form around Forgot You and El Patroness, so he is no slouch.

Next Best at Wyong – Gwan So
Gwan So broke his maiden on April 8 at Canberra in his third Australian outing, and we think he can now go on with it. The Annabel Neasham-trained three-year-old colt was given a great steer by Brodie Loy on that occasion, which saw the son of Ulysses dash away in the straight to win by just shy of a length. He defeated Vaaroom on that occasion, and that horse just won by four lengths on Friday, franking the form of Gwan So. The step out to 1600m should suit, while barrier three is once again ideal for him. He can continue to rise through the grades.

Race 5 – #1 Gwan So (3)
3yo Colt | T: Annabel Neasham | J: Brodie Loy (59kg)

Best Value at Wyong – John Of Lancaster
John Of Lancaster is one three-year-old who has been crying out for a trip, and he finally gets it on Thursday. The son of Tavistock might not have much ability, but he will stay all day, as his breeding suggests, so the rise to 2000m looks suitable. Trained by John Thompson, the gelding has form around Raging Bull and Satirical Glory which reads reasonably well on paper for a Provincial Maiden. Last start, Bayliss took the three-year-old forward from barrier three and he was outsprinted over 1600m, so we are hoping to see similar tactics used here. From barrier eight, John Of Lancaster can roll forward and make this a genuine staying test, and he may just pinch it.

Race 3 – #6 John Of Lancaster (8)
