Million Dollar ‘Wow’ factor

Potential megastar Wow She’s Fast will headline a star-studded Victorian representation in Saturday night’s TAB Million Dollar Chase city qualifiers, being held at Wentworth Park in Sydney.

Trained by Kel and Jackie Greenough, Wow She’s Fast continued the sensational start to her career at Sandown Park last Thursday night when brilliantly winning the Group 3 Launching Pad final in a blistering 28.93sec.

Once again living up to the most optimistic of names, Wow She’s Fast became the fastest female ever at Sandown, with the $150,000 winner’s purse boosting her prizemoney tally to an incredible $938,070, after only 12 starts.

If the daughter of My Bro Fabio can win the Million Dollar Chase, on Saturday, May 7, she would be within touching distance of becoming the first greyhound to pass $2 million in earnings.

“$1 million is just crazy. It sounds like too much money for me to think about!”

A crack at the Million Dollar Chase was initially ruled out for Wow She’s Fast, but a change in plans saw her trial impressively at Wentworth Park on Tuesday and she’ll take her place in Saturday’s fifth qualifier – Race 8 at 8.30pm.

“I’d had a few health problems and it didn’t look like we’d be able to trial Wow She’s Fast at Wentworth Park, but I picked up pretty quickly and here we are!” said Kel Greenough.

“Fortunately, for her owners, Tyrone (Whittington) and Greg (Sprod), and for ourselves, it’s not about money, so we just look at what’s best for the dog.

“I think it’s very important to have a look at Wentworth Park and now we’ve been able to tick that box, it’s a sensational race to be involved in.

WATCH: WOW SHE’S FAST (7) became the fastest female to ever grace Sandown Park last Thursday night when winning the Group 3 Launching Pad final (515m) in a scintillating 28.93sec.

“It was a 12-hour trip to Sydney for Wow She’s Fast and Levitation on Tuesday, so it was a very long day for them – and me – but I’m glad I did it.

“Because of the travel, I gave them a shorter run, a box-to-box, but the main thing was experiencing the different boxes, different lure system and a much noisier lure system to what they’re used to.

“They both handled it well and seemed to come out cleanly. They didn’t dwell or stumble.

“Considering the travel and that it wasn’t a perfect track, with so many other trials being held, Wow She’s Fast’s first split (5.41sec) was very respectable.”

Wow She’s Fast has drawn Box 7 – as was the case in the Launching Pad – for her first interstate appearance and she dominates TAB’s market at $1.65.

Greenough makes the interesting point that two of Wow She’s Fast’s rivals – Perth Cup winner Vice Grip and Billy Creek – also finished behind her in the inaugural TAB Phoenix at The Meadows last December.

“Box 7 isn’t ideal, but it is what it is,” Greenough said.

“She adapts pretty well and she’s a competitor, so hopefully she’s able to get through to next week.

“She’s really still learning what it’s all about and she keeps getting that little bit better out of the boxes with each run.

“I’m not looking any further ahead than Saturday night. The Launching Pad was worth $150,000, which is a lot of money, but $1 million is just crazy!

A who’s who of the Victorian sprinting ranks will converge on Wentworth Park, with other notable Million Dollar Chase contenders including Group winners Do It and Equalizer (Race 4), Plaintiff and Zippy Tesla (Race 5), and Lala Kiwi and Compliance (Race 6).

A top-two finish will ensure a berth in next Friday’s (April 29) eight semi-finals, where the winners will advance to the $1 million to-the-winner final on Saturday, May 7.

LEVITATION will join star kennelmate Wow She’s Fast in Saturday’s Million Dollar Chase qualifiers.
