Best Bet at Ballarat – Israelite Bay
The now Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained Israelite Bay is set to have her first start for the stable and will be looking to bring up a deserved maiden win. Having finished second in both starts during her initial campaign, the three-year-old filly looks to have more than her fair share of ability. She finished a half-length off Australian Guineas placegetter Bon’s A Pearla at her last start, and those proven Group 1 form lines make her a standout on this card. From barrier seven, look for Ethan Brown to have Israelite Bay settled towards the rear of the field before allowing her to let down and put them away.

Next Best at Ballarat – Footlights
Having been simply outclassed in the Australian Derby last time out, we’re expecting the drop back to BM64 grade will prove to be a winning manoeuvre for the Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young-trained Footlights. The start prior, he absolutely bolted in on a Heavy 8 over the Ballarat 2000m, and considering he strikes similar conditions on Sunday, we’re expecting a similar result. From barrier one, there is no doubt he will need luck at a certain time, but if Jordan Childs can have him in clear air approaching the home turn, Footlights should prove too hard to hold out once again on his way to a potential start in the South Australian Derby.

Best Value at Ballarat – Eterea
Resuming off a six-month spell is the Matt Cumani-trained Eterea, and with $13 on offer from PlayUp, we’re willing to give him a push at a nice price. Despite just one minor placing from three starts in her initial campaign, the three-year-old filly managed to run to within a half-length of Spirit Of Gaylard, who looks to have Group class written all over him. She managed to do that on a Heavy 8 at Bendigo on October 3, over 1500m when second-up, and if she can produce a similar effort over 1400m when resuming from a spell, we think she can give this a real shake in a front-running role.
