First Race 5:45pm AEST

Cranbourne Turf Club is set to host an eight-race card this Friday evening as the night racing season continues in Victoria. Following plenty of rain in the area throughout the week, we are racing on a Soft 7, with the rail out 7m the entire circuit. Horsebetting’s Victorian form expert presents his best bets and top odds for the meeting where the first race of the night is set to get underway at 5:45pm AEST

Best Bet at Cranbourne – Elskling

We do not need to wait long for our best bet on Friday night as the Mitchell Freedman-trained Elskling steps out in the opener over 2060m. With half of her rivals having upwards of 25+ race starts, the Husson filly will be having just her fourth career start and is yet to miss the top three in her career. Having resumed from a spell with a dominant win at Ballarat on a Heavy 8 on March 15, the filly backed it up with a narrow third place effort over the mile at Ballarat on April 5. She looks like she is going to eat up every bit of the 2060m this time around and with a win on a Heavy 8 just two starts back, we know she will handle the conditions for this assignment. In the small field of six, she looks to be the backmarker in the race, but armed with a strong turn of foot, Elskling should prove too hard to hold out. We’re happy to take the price on offer with online bookmakers.

Next Best at Cranbourne – Invincibilus

Last start track and distance winner Invincibilus from the Ben & JD Hayes yard returns to the Cranbourne 1000m scamper looking to bring up successive wins for the first time in her career. Despite going around as an $18 chance with online betting sites, the I Am Invincible filly was able to build momentum before the turn and unleashed a stunning turn of foot to put over two lengths on Red Hot Nicc back in second. This field is no harder than the one she just smashed and with a similar run in transit expected, all she needs to do is replicate that turn of foot and Invincibilus should be sending us home a winner.

Best Value at Cranbourne – Confrontational

The Jason Warren & Dean Krongold-trained Confrontational has won just once in the last 18 months, but we are willing to give him a push in the second leg of the quaddie. His win at Mornington on October 31 is his only win since claiming the Listed Geelong Classic in October 2020, but the fact he is a Stakes winner going around in a BM64 shows not only the form he is in, but the potential he has in being able to take out a race like this. He gets better as his campaign goes on, so completely forget his first-up run at Sandown in a tougher race. From barrier three, look for Beau Mertens to stalk the speed and with a strong turn of foot, we expect Confrontational will be too good for this lot at a price.
