Thursday night racing continues at Pakenham with an eight-race card that kicks off at 5:45pm AEST. And it’s not a bad program, either, despite featuring four maiden events.
The field sizes are healthy, which gives added value to those having a bet on the meeting. The tricky races for punters come in races three and four, so it might be worth looking for value in these ones.
The quaddie starts at 7:45pm, with the last going round at 9:15pm.
BEST BET: TIPUNGWUTI
‘Tippa’ has had a few raps on him since he started trialing but we are going on form alone here. He was backed in when he broke his maiden at Kilmore and despite worrying punters for a few strides around the home turn, he was far too good. Last time, he stepped up in class and was unplaced (sixth) but was only beaten three lengths at Caulfield in a much harder race. The market will be a good guide with this horse because the stable didn’t actually expect him to fire at Caulfield, but at Pakenham on Thursday night, it may be a different story. Do Ya Punk for Peter Moody is the obvious danger.

Next Best: OH BRUNNY BOY
This guy will be fitter now after two fair runs following a 24-week spell. Wendy Kelly has chosen to step him up to 1400m, too, which we think will be more suitable. Craig Newitt is on board again and he did get the maiden win on Brunny Boy; that race was over 1500m and third-up, and this is the horse’s third run this time in. His other race with Newitt on board resulted in a second, beaten a nose. Before his two races in this preparation, Brunny Boy had two nice trials, so we are anticipating he will be 100 per cent fit for this.

BEST VALUE: INALA MICHELLE
This Phillip Stokes-trained three-year-old is having her third career start after two impressive outings at Kyenton and Mornington. She got the money by a nose on debut before backing up for a nice second after settling midfield in the run. We expect her to settle in the middle of the pack again from barrier nine and a position of one out, one back is likely her best result. This is a race of many chances, so we will probably want each-way odds with this one, and the 1200m looks ideal while she is still learning. Hardest to beat will be Starlea, I Like Big Putts and Funzelle.
