Otago trainer Brad Williamson is looking forward to heading north to Addington Raceway on Wednesday where he is set to kick-off the career of two-year-old filly Krackaling.
The daughter of What The Hill has had three trials leading into her debut and Williamson is expecting a bold showing after drawing the ace marble in the Johnnie Walker Mobile Trot (1980m).
“I am pretty happy with her, she is a nice wee horse,” said Williamson, who will also take the reins.
“She has come up with a good draw so we are looking forward to it.
“She has been trialling up pretty nicely and doing everything under a nice hold, and has been finishing nicely to the line.
“She should hopefully step up a little bit and go a good race.”
Williamson will also drive three-year-old debutant Majestic Love in the IRT. Your Horse. Our Passion. Handicap Trot (2000m) for his father Phil Williamson.
“She is a sister to Majestic Man and she has been trialling up well,” Williamson said.
“I think she is a good top three chance in her race.”
Meanwhile, Williamson has welcomed the return of Group One performer Cracker Hill to his barn after an 18-month absence.
“He had a tiny piece of bone growing in the back of his knee so he needed an operation at the Otago Equine Clinic,” Williamson said.
“Since then he has had time off and then he had two months of swimming at Craig Ferguson’s, down in the south. He spent a couple of months there to bring his fitness forward prior to coming to my place.
“He is back in the cart doing some slow miles. He is having a long and slow build-up.
“He is a wee while away from the race track because he had such a long time off.
“All going well we will look to perhaps give him a few starts over winter somewhere and have a little freshen-up before he comes into the spring and summer racing.
“For a young trainer you are hoping to get a horse of his quality. We have had an enforced layoff over the last 18 months, which has been pretty disappointing, but you have just got to
look at the positives and hope to get him back to the track 100 percent and if we can I am sure he will show us he is a really nice horse once again.”
