What Geelong Races
Where Geelong Racecourse – 99 Breakwater Rd, Breakwater VIC 3219
When Tuesday, January 22, 2022
First Race 1:30pm AEDT

For the second time in three days, we are set to race at Geelong Racecourse. HorseBetting’s Victorian form expert has combed through Tuesday’s card and found a few potential mid-week winners. We’re racing on a Soft 5, whilst the rail comes out to the 4m from the 800m-350m and then sits true for the remainder. The first of eight races is set to jump at 1:30pm AEDT.

Geelong Best Bet – Saintly Rose

We do not need to wait too long for our best bet of the day on Tuesday, with the Damien Hunter-trained Saintly Rose looking to break through for a deserved maiden win. With three runner-up efforts to her name, she clearly has some sort of staying ability. She had next to no luck in the opening stages last time out at Ballarat on March 8 when getting tapped three wide until the 1000m mark in a 2600m event. From barrier eight, look for Craig Atkinson to roll forward and have this five-year-old bay mare settled in the one-one, where the pair can track market fancy Tavabeel. She looks like she will stay all day from what we’ve seen in her career so far, and in a race no harder than what she has been competing in, the $5 on offer from Neds is too good to be true.

Best BetRace 1 – Saintly Rose (#9) $5 with Neds

Next Best Bet at Geelong – Euro Dandy

We will be looking to bookend the card as the Chris Calthope-trained Euro Dandy looks to bring up a second career victory at start eight. The three-year-old gelding wasn’t beaten too far in a similar race at Ararat on March 4 and looks the one to be with in this. From barrier six, the Eurozone gelding looks set to gain an economical run in transit, which should allow him to track the speed and quicken nicely. Having competed in tougher company in this, he will appreciate the drop back to a country level midweek BM58. With a nice turn of foot, he simply looks too good for a field like this over the 1710m trip.

Next BestRace 8 – Euro Dandy (#2) $3.40 with Ladbrokes

Best Value Bet at Geelong – A Good Yarn

Mervyn McKenzie and Jarrod Fry are set to combine with A Good Yarn, who – despite being short of his best this campaign – looks way over the odds on Tuesday. The eight-year-old gelding does his best racing when settling close to the speed and being able to produce a short sharp sprint to put a gap on his rivals. From barrier four, the O’lonhro gelding draws to gain a perfect run in transit where Fry can track the speed throughout and look to peel off the leaders’ back upon cornering. With a nice turn of foot, we can see A Good Yarn being too hard to run down at a nice each-way price.

Best ValueRace 6 – A Good yarn (#1) $14 with Sportsbet
