Silver Brute ‘Sizzles’ at ‘The Bool’

Exciting speedster Silver Brute is set to continue Gary Peach’s dream run with his homebred Aston Dee Bee x Weeping Lass litter in Saturday night’s lucrative Summer Sizzle final (390m) at Warrnambool.

Silver Brute, which turned two on Christmas Eve, is chasing his sixth win from seven starts in the $10,000 to-the-winner Summer Sizzle, the centrepiece of Warrnambool’s annual Seaside Festival.

Peach has already enjoyed feature race success during the carnival, with Struck Gold, a litter brother to Silver Brute, winning the Vic Bred Maiden Final (450m) last Wednesday on debut.

The litter is headlined by Action Girl, which has won eight of her 10 starts.

“I’d rather be drawn in a bit closer (to the rail) but he only needs a couple of strides and he’ll explode.”

“I’d say Action Girl would be the best in the litter but ‘The Brute’ has more early speed,” said Peach, who’s based at Cape Clear.

“You don’t run 8.16sec – 8.17sec early at Ballarat consistently. That’s absolutely flying and apparently he was only a length off the (Warrnambool) first split record in his heat.”

Peach is spot on that the aptly-named Silver Brute, which weighs in at 34.5 kilograms, is blessed with early speed – and plenty of it – which he showcased in his all-the-way Summer Sizzle heat success last Saturday.

Drawn in Box 8, Silver Brute ($1.80) outpaced Anthony Azzopardi’s Diamond Ability, winner of the Pink Diamond Maiden Short Course series last July, with a flying 8.34sec first section, less than one length outside the course record.

SUMMER SIZZLE HEAT WINNERS (Fastest to slowest)
21.96sec Orson Mick
21.98sec Silver Brute

WATCH: Silver Brute (8) showed breathtaking early speed before holding on to win his Warrnambool Summer Sizzle heat in 21.98sec on New Year’s Day.

After opening up his rivals mid-race, Silver Brute held on to defeat Western Blazer ($2.70), trained by Angela Langton, by half a length in 21.98sec.

The first of the two heats went to Jessica Sharp’s Orson Mick in 21.96sec.

Silver Brute has again drawn wide in Box 7 for the Summer Sizzle decider, where Peach is hoping the youngster’s ‘catch me if you can’ racing pattern will prevail.

“I’d rather be drawn in a bit closer (to the rail) but he only needs a couple of strides and he’ll explode,” said Peach.

“It will come down to the first 50 metres.

“He has wanted to ‘crash’ (left) a bit but he kept out really well last week, so he’s learning all the time.

The emergence of Silver Brute and Action Girl continues Peach’s success with the progeny of their dam Weeping Lass, best known (thus far) for producing 2019 G2 Bendigo Cup winner Crimson Vixen.

Peach secured Weeping Lass as a brood matron courtesy of a pup deal with brothers Daryl and Colin Brennan, who train another promising littermate in Mobile Legend.

“I liked Weeping Lass as a race bitch and being by Lonesome Cry, they make good brood bitches too,” Peach explained.

“I asked the Brennan boys about buying a pup from her and they said they weren’t going to breed with her because they had her sister, Pink Martini, which they said was better. They asked me if I wanted to take her and give them a couple of pups from each litter.

“Her first litter was to Barcia Bale and I was still working at the time, so I couldn’t keep them all.

“I’m the ear-brander for the area and I was talking to Norm McCullagh and he asked if I knew of any Barcia Bale litters for sale. I told Norm that I actually had a litter and about two weeks later he came and had a look.

“Norm was very keen on a red fawn bitch but I told him she was already taken by the Brennans, so he ended up with Crimson Vixen (18 wins from 32 starts) and Delta Rhode (10 from 25)!

“Four bitches from Weeping Lass’ first litter have had litters themselves now. Crimson Vixen and Delta Rhode both went to Fernando Bale, Mother Hannah has had litters to Bernardo and Houdini Boy and Wrong Decision went to Equalizer.

“Weeping Lass’s second litter to Collision has won about 30 races and there were seven in her Aston Dee Bee litter. I retired from Telstra three years ago, so I’ve kept them all this time!”
