Moonee Valley Racecourse is scheduled to host a bumper eight-race card on Friday and Horsebetting’s Victorian tipping expert presents his best bets, top odds and free quaddie picks for the New Year’s Eve meeting. The track has come up a Good 4, with the rail out 4m the entire circuit, for the meeting commencing at 5:15pm AEDT.
Moonee Valley Best Bet – Pitchanun
In the opening leg of the quaddie, we expect to see the Danny O’Brien-trained Pitchanun break a string of runner-up efforts and bring up a second career win. The four-year-old Savabeel mare has chased home Starspangled Baby and Daqiansweet Junior at her last two starts. From barrier six, Johnny Allen will look to have her settled in the one-one where she should gain a nice tow into the race. She has a win and two minor placings from four starts at the mile and we think she just needs to run to recent form to take out a BM64 for fillies and mares like this. Outside of market rival Spooning, this looks to be a shallow affair and Pitchanun looks a clear best bet of the night.
Next Best Bet at Moonee Valley – Marcolt
With three weeks between runs, Patrick Payne sends his four-year-old gelding Marcolt to the Moonee Valley 1600m following a first-up second at Geelong on December 10. The son of Reliable Man was held up for a run when approaching the home turn, but did well to run on when weaving his way through runners from the rear of the field. He made up substantial ground on that day and with even luck on Friday night, he should be too good for this lot. We expect to see Michael Dee to have him settled at the back of the field and if he has Marcolt moving 500m out from home, then his turn of foot when straightening should prove the difference in this Class 1 affair.
Moonee Valley Value Bet – Black Opal
In the third leg of the quaddie, the John Molony-trained Black Opal will be looking to make it three wins from his past four starts when stepping out over 1200m. The six-year-old son of Statue Of Liberty could do no better than a third-place finish at the track and distance on December 17, but looked to have a few excuses when doing so. He is a natural leader, and you could see that when he was forced to sit off the speed and ultimately over raced. The booking of Alana Kelly who claims 3kg shows intent on their want to lead and as he showed throughout this campaign 58kg will be no issue. Expect a bold showing at a big price.
