Stony Creek Best Bet – Miss Tenthousand
The Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained Miss Tenthousand managed to run her rivals ragged at Hamilton on December 7 and looks well-placed to do the same here on Monday. With form behind the smart Marimenko last campaign, this five-year-old mare out of Spirit Of Boom appreciated being out in front and dictating terms and show she indeed has above average ability. She will need to carry 63.5kg on Monday, but if she can handle the big weight, there looks to be no reason why she cannot bring up consecutive wins. From barrier seven, Ethan Brown will want to roll forward on the mare and with an uncontested lead expected, Miss Tenthousand will prove too hard to run down over 2100m.
Next Best Bet at Stony Creek – Okay To Pay
We were with the Phillip Stokes-trained when the four-year-old mare Okay To Pay won at Wangaratta on December 2 in an impressive all the way victory. The mare out of Gingerbread Man used Sheridan Clarke’s 4kg claim to her advantage when dictating terms out in front and offering a kick when it mattered most. She draws barrier two on Monday afternoon where we expect Clarke to adopt similar tactics. Her main market rival Sharwin clearly has plenty of ability but considering Okay To Pay already has a run under her belt this preparation, we expect that to be the difference in what looks to be a match race. As long as she gets the better of Sharwin, Okay To Pay will be too good for the rest of this bunch.
Best Value Bet at Stony Creek – Roederer
The Logan McGill-trained Roederer has put in two runner-up efforts at two of his last three starts and looks to be over the odds on Monday in the final leg of the quaddie. The five-year-old son of Not a Single Doubt was beaten by the narrowest of margins at Mornington on December 14 when hitting the line strongly. He looks to do his best racing when settling close to the speed and from barrier two, we expect Will Gordon to have him lobbed just off the leaders’ heels. With even luck in the home straight, he has a sharp enough turn of foot to take out a BM58 event like this.
