The Parks track at Morphettville is scheduled to host a nine-race card on Saturday afternoon, and HorseBetting’s South Australian racing expert presents his best bets and free quaddie selections for the meeting. The track is rated a Good 4, and the rail is out 9m from the 1000m to the winning post and then out 6m for the remainder. Racing is set to start at 12:21pm ACDT (12:51pm AEDT).
Morphettville Best Bet – Spanish Heirloom
Our best bet on the program presents a bit of value when the Travis Doudle-trained Spanish Heirloom steps out over 1000m in the third race of the day. The four-year-old Barbados mare was sent around as a $2.20 favourite at Port Lincoln on November 3 and duly saluted with a dominant all-the-way victory. We expect similar tactics on Saturday with Ben Price hopping back on board, and with four wins from six goes when teaming up together, we are happy to take the $6 quote on offer. The apprentice hoop’s 3kg claim means Spanish Heirloom will go around with just 52kg on her back, which will aid her chances in going forward. If Price wants to let a fast horse be a fast horse, she will take some catching in a lacklustre field.
Next Best Bet at Morphettville – Halifax Road
The way the Peter Hardacre-trained Halifax Road won on debut at Murray Bridge on October 27 suggested he was one to follow at his next start. Having settled three wide with no cover up on speed over the 1400m, the three-year-old by Fighting Sun had plenty left in the tank when kicking clear in the home straight to win convincingly. The step up to 1550m in this BM64 should not be an issue, and from barrier three, Anna Jordsjo should have no trouble finding cover early on. With Halifax Road expected to settle in the one-one, look for him to peel out and make a run at the top of the straight. With a similar turn of foot as he showed on debut, he should extend his undefeated record here.
Best Value Bet at Morphettville – Santelmo Feugo
Grant Young and Sophie Logan will be looking to make it consecutive victories for Santelmo Fuego having scored with the six-year-old gelding over 2500m on November 2. He drops back to the 1950m here, and with race fitness on his side, we expect to see an honest effort as always from the son of Written Tycoon. Logan hops aboard with her 2kg claim, getting him in with just 55kg on his back, which will benefit his chances of winning in a front-running display. Whether he takes a sit off the lead or opts to sit up outside the leader, we expect to see Santelmo Fuego fight out the finish in the opening leg of the quaddie.
