HorseBetting’s Queensland form analyst brings you his best bets and quaddie numbers for what is a very competitive eight-race metropolitan program at Doomben on Wednesday. The track is rated an improving Soft 5, while the rail is out 6m for the entire course after sitting in the true position on Saturday. The first race of the day is set to jump at 1:18pm AEST.
Best Bet at Doomben – Single Memo
Steven O’Dea and Matt Hoysted originally had three runners in this race and they all looked to be right in with a winning chance, but they have scratched both Schnitty and Fetch, leaving Single Memo as their lone runner. The filly by Not A Single Doubt won well on debut at Eagle Farm and then went down narrowly at the Sunshine Coast at her second career start, but she showed her class by putting 4.5 lengths on the third horse. Single Memo has now had six weeks between runs, which should have her freshened right up, while she has drawn ideally in barrier one to get cover and finish over the top of them. Jaden Lloyd will claim 2kg as well, bringing this three-year-old’s weight right down to 55kg.
Next Best at Doomben – Debussy
We are big fans of Titanium, and while he lost no respect despite bombing the start when first-up off a long spell, we are with Debussy here. The Toby & Trent Edmonds runner showed plenty of speed on debut as a two-year-old to lead throughout over 1000m at Eagle Farm and win by three-quarters of a length. The stable then elected to send this son of Choisir to the Gold Coast for a crack at the Group 3 Ken Russell Classic, where he was far from disgraced behind Subterranean and Ranch Hand – quality form to take into a Class 1 on a Wednesday. Robbie Fradd has had everything to do with this colt, so it should be straightforward again here off the back of two good trials. He should lead from barrier seven and take a power of beating.
Best Value at Doomben – Plutocrat
In the final race of the day, Chris Munce and apprentice jockey Kyle Wilson-Taylor combine with Plutocrat, who is looking to break a 16-month drought. The four-year-old mare’s last win came back in July last year in a two-year-old race where she beat home Zero To Hundred and Tumbler Ridge, while she also boasts form around September Run, Isotope and Apache Chase. In her two runs in this campaign, the daughter of Rich Enuff finished fifth to Centrefire when fresh and then ran a really good second to the in-form Ingear on Melbourne Cup Day. The mare is a Doomben winner in the past, while the rise in distance to 1350m should suit her to a tee. Wilson-Taylor’s 2kg claim means she will carry 57kg on her back, while barrier three should allow her to find the front, control the race and give a strong kick.
