A national punter’s club on tomorrow’s NZ Cup meeting could develop in a six-figure war chest.
With so many punters unable to be at Addington or even in Christchurch the Addington club and TAB have worked together to establish the Box Seat National Punters Club, in which punters can buy shares as small or as large as they like via the TAB website or in TAB retail outlets for those outside Level 3 areas.
That pool of money will then be invested over the last 10 races (R3-12) on selections by the panelists of New Zealand’s televised harness show The Box Seat, Greg O’Connor and Herald racing editor Michael Guerin.
“We will be doing plenty of research, making our calls and then hopefully giving punters a reason to yell at their TV because we will all be in it together,” said O’Connor.
“Of course we want people to be responsible with taking a share but it will be fun and the bets will be confirmed on Trackside and social media before each race so people can play along.”
The pool opened on Saturday morning and had already risen to $25,000 yesterday afternoon.
