Pakenham is scheduled to host a nine-race card on Friday night, and HorseBetting’s Victorian form expert presents his best bets and free quaddie selections for the evening. The track is rated a Soft 5, the rail is out 2m for the entire circuit, and racing is set to kick off at 5:40pm AEDT.

Pakenham Best Bet – Canadian Gold

Our best bet of the night comes up in the third leg of the quaddie when the Leon & Troy Corstens-trained Canadian Gold steps over 1400m. She chased home the smart Super Thief when first-up from a spell at Sale on October 6 and then got too far out of her ground at Ballarat when second-up, although she stormed home late to finish second to Swamp Vixen. From barrier 10, Damien Thornton will need to have the Vancouver mare settled in the second half of the field. If he can have her sitting one or two pairs closer to the speed than at Ballarat, her turn of foot should be simply too much for a field like this.

Best BetRace 8 – Canadian Gold (#9) $4.80 with Sportsbet

Next Best at Pakenham – Miyazaki

Peter Moody and Brian Higgins will be looking to go one better this time with Miyazaki, who ran second to Fashion Avenue on debut at Mornington on October 18. He settled no better than three wide without cover and still managed to chase with intent to eventually be beaten by 1.5 lengths. He draws barrier four here, and we expect Higgins to lob him in the moving line with cover. With such a cosy run in transit expected and some untapped ability underneath, look for Higgins to have him moving into the race at the top of the straight and ultimately proving too hard to hold out.

Next BestRace 4 – Miyazaki (#5) $2.60 with Sportsbet

Pakenham Value Bet – Design Artist

Design Artist finished only 0.3 lengths off Canadian Gold at Ballarat on October 21, so we rate his chances as a double-figure pop. Having settled up on speed outside the leader, the three-year-old Al Maher filly was left vulnerable over the final furlong but managed to go through the line strongly to suggest she would be hard to beat at her next start. She stays at 1200m, and with Ben Allen on board from barrier five, we expect to see her settle up on speed once again. Now third-up, that fitness edge should allow Design Artist to find her way back into the winner’s stall.

Best ValueRace 6 – Design Artist (#12) $12 with Sportsbet
