First Race 1pm AEST

Geelong Racecourse is scheduled to host an eight-race card on Wednesday afternoon, and HorseBetting’s Victorian horse racing analyst presents his best bets and quaddie numbers with odds from Australia’s leading online bookmakers. The track is rated a Good 4, the rail is out 8m from the 1700m-800m and then out 10m for the remainder, and the meeting is set to get underway at 1pm AEST.

Geelong Best Bet: Alontro

Tony and Calvin McEvoy send their three-year-old colt Alontro to the Geelong 1443m following consecutive runner-up performances to begin his career. The three-year-old Lonhro colt ran into a smart one in Serenaur at Ballarat on September 19, but he strikes a winnable maiden on Wednesday. Having rolled forward and dictated terms last time out, we anticipate Luke Currie will take up the running from barrier three; considering the rail placement, it could be a day where it is advantageous to be up on speed. With plenty of his rivals expected to be back in the field, he should get a quiet time of it out in front and prove too hard to run down.

Next Best at Geelong: Narvaez

In the second leg of the Geelong quaddie, we are hoping the form of the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott stable continues when Narvaez steps out over 1443m. Having resumed with a second-place finish at Sandown on September 1, the four-year-old son of Vancouver is sure to benefit from that for this second-up run. Having chased home the likes of Parure, Butter Chicken and Khoekhoe last campaign, this looks to be a winnable race for him. Jordan Childs will need to use his early speed to his advantage and get him across the front of the field from barrier 14. We expect Childs to take up the running and make it a genuinely run affair, and if he does that, the 61kg should be no issue.

Next BestRace 7 – Narvaez (#3) $2.50 with Sportsbet

Next Best Again at Geelong: Grey Khan

In the opening leg of the quaddie, we anticipate the Peter Gelagotis-trained Grey Khan can go one better than his second-place finish at this track and distance on September 17. Having set up a massive lead in running, the son of Dalakhani was only nabbed on the line in what was a fighting effort. Tianni Chapman sticks on board with her 3kg claim, and if she employs similar tactics to what she did last time out, we anticipate Grey Khan will be too hard to run down this time around. He comes up against a handful of his rivals who made little to no impression when they last met and will look to break their hearts once more.

Next Best AgainRace 5 – Grey Khan (#1) $4.80 with Sportsbet
