HorseBetting’s New South Wales form analyst brings you his best bets and quaddie numbers for the metropolitan meeting at Gosford this Wednesday. The rail is out 3m from the 1100m to the winning post and then true for the remainder, while the track is rated a Good 4. The first of seven races is set to jump at 1:25pm AEST.
Gosford Best Bet: Nags To Riches
Brad Widdup’s consistent mare Nags To Riches comes back to midweek company on Wednesday after two honest fifth-placings at Randwick on Saturdays. The talented daughter of Written Tycoon has won three of her eight starts, including a fast-finishing win three runs ago on the Kensington track with 57kg under James McDonald. She rises to 61kg on Wednesday, which is a slight query, but McDonald hops back aboard and she is down in class, so she should be in the finish again. Drawn in barrier seven, McDonald will take her back and allow her to run on strongly off the back of a strong tempo provided by the likes of Gold Bracelet and Either Oar. She is one from one at Gosford too.
Next Best at Gosford: Majella
James McDonald rarely has a bad book of rides and that is again the case on Wednesday as he partners Majella for Matthew Smith. This lightly raced seven-year-old mare has had just 19 starts, winning five and placing second on two other occasions, with one of them being at her most recent start three weeks ago behind Come Along. The daughter of Testa Rossa was a really good winner at Newcastle three starts ago and then found no luck at Randwick when fourth to Tampering, who has been around the money in his two subsequent starts. Majella has drawn a touch wide in barrier seven, but we expect McDonald to use that to his advantage and keep her out of trouble and in clear air around the tight track. This looks a good race for her to get back into the winner’s circle.
Gosford Value Bet: Plonka
Plonka has already secured a slot in The Kosciuszko, so we have no doubt that he won’t be peaking until that race on October 16. But even if he isn’t 100% right now, he will give this a shake. The Warren Gavenlock-trained six-year-old is a model of consistency, despite failing to beat a runner home last time out. That run came in an 1110m Open Quality at Doomben where he settled last and the leader, You Make Me Smile, got all of the favours in front, which made it near impossible for anything to make any ground, so he can be forgiven for that. He does rise 2.5kg, but he drops from Saturday Open company to a Wednesday Benchmark 78 which he should be much more competitive in. Barrier six should suit, as he will settle midfield with cover under Josh Parr and come storming home down the middle of the track.
