When Friday, September 3, 2021
First Race 1pm AEST

An eight-race card is scheduled for Bendigo on Friday afternoon, and HorseBetting’s Victorian racing analyst presents his best bets and top quaddie numbers for the meeting. The track is rated a Soft 6, the rail returns to the true position, and the action will commence at 1pm AEST.

Bendigo Best Bet: Marimenko

We were with Marimenko at Sandown on August 25, but he ran into one better on the day, the in-form The Garden. Having sat outside the leader the whole race, the four-year-old son of Zoffany simply could not bridge the gap in the home straight and eventually went down by under a length. Despite needing to lug 60kg on Wednesday, he is clearly the horse in the race with the most upside and we expect to see him back in the winner’s stall. From barrier two, he should get a cosy run in transit if Fred Kersley opts to find cover. Only bad luck might prevent Marimenko from making it two wins from three starts in Australia.

Next Best at Bendigo: Rinnova

Team Hawkes bring their five-year-old mare Rinnova to Bendigo as they look to build on an impressive start to her career. With a win and two second-place finishes from three runs, she is yet to run a poor race. The daughter of Dream Ahead was a touch unlucky at Cranbourne on September 2, going down by half a length after racing keenly when looking for room with 600m to go. From barrier two, we expect Dean Holland to look for the front here and use the tactical speed she has shown at the trials to her advantage. If things do not go to plan, look for her to take a sit off the leader’s heels and use the nice turn of foot she showed at Geelong two starts back. Either way, Rinnova should prove too good for this lot.

Bendigo Value Bet: Toyz On Fire

Tony and Calvin McEvoy are set to throw Toyz On Fire into the deep end when she steps out in a BM70. The four-year-old mare smashed her rivals by seven lengths in a BM58 on the Ballarat synthetic on August 16 having gained the most economical run in transit. From barrier six under Luke Currie, look for her to settle in the first half a dozen here. If she can produce a similar turn of foot to what she showed at Ballarat, the daughter of Fighting Sun could prove too hard to hold out despite the rise in class. Her sole win on turf came on rain-affected ground, which she should get on Wednesday, so Toyz On Fire looks every chance to put together consecutive wins together.
