Tequila Sunset has winning shot

By Jonny Turner

Kyle Cameron hopes Tequila Sunset can breathe easy on his way to victory at Addington on Sunday.

The trotter goes into race 6 seeking a deserved win following his tidy second behind Red Harbour in his last start at Timaru.

Cameron has made an adjustment to the horse’s bit since that race in the hope he can go one better in his 2600m assignment on Sunday.

“He is working well and I have just made a bit of a bit change with him.”

“He has always had a bit of a breathing issue, I have put a tongue control bit on him.”

“It should stop him getting his tongue back quite so far and help his breathing.”

“It seems to have helped his work.”

Tequila Sunset has drawn barrier 1 in his last two starts and has drawn there again in race 6.

The ace alley should be a big help for the trotter.

“The draw is nice, I think he is definitely a top-three chance.”

“That’s The Story and Beyond The Horizon are possibly a little bit better than him but he should get a really good run.”

“We are looking for a bit of an improvement on Sunday and he should be my best chance.”

Cameron also lines up Big Mama Morris in race 4.

The mare clearly looks good enough to win her 2600m assignment but the trainer-driver has some concerns about her draw, barrier 2 on the second row.

“On class, I would say she is right up there.”

“But she got really fierce from one the second row last start, but if the 2 horse gets out it could work out really well.”

“It just depends how things work out and depends how fierce she gets.”

“She is a funny horse, if she gets too angry and you’re hanging on too much she can do things wrong.”

“A couple of times she has galloped in the score up and it all depends on her attitude.”

The Optimist in race 7 looks the outsider of Cameron’s team.

Mainly because the pacer is also drawn barrier 2 on the second row.

“I have been desperate for a handy draw because from what I have found she is much better in front and from 11 I am not going to get there.”

“If we can settle handy without doing too much we will see if she can find the line.”

Cameron takes the reins behind all three of his runners on Sunday.
