The Listed Port Adelaide Guineas is the featured event on Morphettville’s nine race card on Saturday afternoon. The team at horsebetting.com.au are here to bring you the best $100 betting strategy for the race worth over $100,000.
The race has long been known as a strong form reference for the Australasian Oaks that is held at Morphettville four weeks after the running of the Port Adelaide Guineas, with most runners using this as their penultimate run leading into the Oaks. The 2021 edition has attracted a strong field of 15, with Victorian filly Chica Fuerte the $2.70 favourite with online bookmakers.
The speed in the race looks to come from rank outsider Ichibansan who has shown plenty of early toe in its career, with key contenders Chica Fuerte and Let’s Karaka Deel both expected to be up on speed throughout the running.
It looks almost impossible to go past the Anthony Freedman-trained Chica Fuerte in the Port Adelaide Guineas following her impressive all the way win in the Group 3 Alexandra Stakes at The Valley. Her win on March 19 was mainly due to an A grade steer from jockey Mark Zahra who used the wide barrier to his advantage to get the Hinchinbrook filly across to the rails and the pair never really looked like getting beaten. With Todd Pannell on board for this assignment we expect a similar tactic having drawn an outside barrier in such a big field. We do not expect her to get it as easy out in front, but with a well rated ride Chica Fuerte is certainly the one to beat on Saturday afternoon.
The one for Chica Fuerte to beat looks to come from the Lee Creek stable in Royal Mile who is yet to run outside of the top two in six career starts. Having won in impressive style over the 1600m here at Morphettville on March 27, he looks to get a similar run as he did on that day one pair back from the speed. This without a doubt is Royal Mile’s toughest task to date, but with young gun Jacob Opperman on board we expect the son of Danerich to be the toughest to hold out.
The one who looks to be over the odds in the Port Adelaide Guineas is the Mick Price-trained Ironedge who had excuses when well beaten in the Group 1 Australian Guineas two starts back, and has been racing in stronger company almost his whole career. From barrier 14 apprentice Lachie Neindorf will look to settle the Shamus Award gelding towards the rear of the field and be charging home late, much the same as he did at Sandown last start despite being well beaten when running second.
