Three wonderful charities are sharing in more than $65,000 after the recent conclusion of greyhound racing’s 2020 ‘Chase for Charity’ promotion including Maddie Riewoldt’s Vision.
In the second of three post-event presentations over the coming weeks, GRV’s GM Strategic Communication, Louise Martin joined the ‘Off The Bench’ team this morning as Maddie Riewoldt’s Vision was presented with a cheque for $19,749,50.
Maddie Riewoldt’s Vision director Dr Simonne Neil was on hand to accept the cheque, and said the money would help provide rearchers with the necessary tools to better understand bone marrow biology and find new treatments and, ultimately, to find cures.
The Riewoldt family has long had a connection with greyhound racing through Maddie’s cousin, AFL star Jack Riewoldt.
A pillar of Saturday morning radio in recent years, ‘Chase for Charity’ segments are aired on 1116 SEN and throughout a multitude of stations throughout regional Victoria via the ACE Radio network.
About Maddie Riewoldt:
Maddie Riewoldt was just 26 years old when she died of complications of a Bone Marrow Failure Syndrome called Aplastic Anaemia. She was diagnosed at 21 years and for five tough years, she put up a brave fight. She spent those years enduring several bone marrow transplants, hundreds of blood transfusions and ongoing treatments. Throughout her life and prior to her diagnosis, Maddie was a talented sportswoman, passionate about soccer, cricket, surf lifesaving and AFL. Maddie was fiercely devoted and loyal to her family (& dog, Oscar) and asked them to make her a promise when her fight was ending in February 2015. Maddie wanted to ensure nobody else went through what she did. Maddie Riewoldt’s Vision is her legacy.

Maddie Riewoldt’s Vision aims to raise funds to find new treatments for Bone Marrow Failure Syndromes. The Vision aims to ultimately find a cure for the syndromes that affect young Australians each year.
About ‘Chase for Charity’:
Each weekend for 40 weeks during 2020 ‘Off The Bench’ hosts Craig Hutchison (Ronald McDonald House) and Liam Pickering (Men’s Shed Association) placed $500 each on a greyhound, with all winnings being raised for their respective charities. A weekly $500 bet was also placed on a greyhound on behalf of the Maddie’s Vision charity.

2nd Victorian Men’s Shed Association (Pickers) $22,052.50.
