Home away from home

Tiggerlong Tonk will head into Wagga’s Million Dollar Case Regional heats tonight with a home track advantage.

The son of Dyna Double One and Tiggerlong Dot was educated on the Wagga track, making it an easy choice for Victorian trainer Corey Grenfell to head in that direction in his bid to become the next Million Dollar Chase winner.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Tiggerlong Tonk will be in the care of owner and breeder Michael Finn.

“There is a lot of trust involved in having someone else in control of one of your best greyhounds and we are lucky enough to have that stress taken away having Michael involved,” Corey Grenfell said.

There is only one heat of the Wagga Million Dollar Chase series which as a result will see the same eight greyhounds compete against each other next week.

“Tonk will stay with Michael until after the Wagga Regional Final.”

This will be Tiggerlong Tonk’s second interstate series in his 52-start career, his first trip was to Hobart, Tasmania where he finished fifth to Hooked On Scotch in the Group 1 Hobart Thousand after he clocked the fastest qualifying time.

“I don’t think the trip will worry him; he is an experienced race dog now who knows how to conduct himself.”

Tiggerlong Tonk will jump from box seven in race seven tonight at Wagga.
