The Maroon Marauder has placed in his last three starts and trainer Brad Mowbray is hoping he can continue his good run of form in the IRT. Your Trusted Airfreight Co. Handicap Pace (2600m) at Addington Raceway on Sunday.
“He seems pretty bright,” Mowbray said. “He raced well the other day (when finishing third).
“He got a pretty good trip and we were rapt with him. He is a pretty happy old horse, he doesn’t worry about much.”
The son of Washington VC will start from behind the 10m mark and Mowbray is confident the eight-year-old will step away well.
“He has been beginning pretty well, so I would like to think he will do the same on Sunday,” he said. “Usually it depends on how the race is run for how Matty (Williamson) will drive him.”
Mowbray is relatively confident with his charge and labelled him as his stable’s best chance of the day.
“He has got to be a chance in that field,” he said.
Stablemates Might Reactor and Spicy Girl Becqui will contest the IRT. World Leaders In Equine Airfreight Mobile Pace (2600m).
Mighty Reactor pleased Mowbray with his last start win, while Spicy Girl Becqui has not had a lot of luck of late.
“I was really pleased with Might Reactor last start,” Mowbray said. “He had half an excuse around the corner when the leader came back on him, but he got off his back and ran up the straight really well.
“He seems to have come through the run well. It is a step up in grade, but he has got a nice draw (1).
“Spicy Girl Becqui broke a hopple last Sunday. 2600m and drawing wide (8) is not her cup of tea, so she will go back on Sunday and hopefully she will get a bit of luck and run home well.”
Mowbray’s final runner of the day, West Wing, has been struggling to find form and Mowbray said he will need plenty of luck in the IRT. Supporters Of Harness Racing Mobile Pace (1980m).
“He galloped away and took no part last Sunday,” Mowbray said. “It’s hard to get a line on him, but he’s back to the mobile with a handy draw (3), so it will be just take him on trust.”
