Four-year-old gelding Tavidance (NZ) (Tavistock) was a comfortable winner at Caulfield on Saturday when landing the Neds Bet Back Handicap (1400m) for trainers Mick Price and Michael Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr.
The Caulfield trainers have enjoyed good success with the progeny of the late Cambridge Stud sire Tavistock, most notably with multiple Group One winner Tarzino, and progressive galloper Tavidance looks to be another that can string multiple wins together for the stable.
Perfectly ridden by Jamie Kah, Tavidance always looked a likely winner and drew away late to score by a soft two lengths.
The rising five-year-old has won three of his six starts and was stakes placed as a three-year-old when trained by Darren Weir.
“He was third to Vow And Declare in a stakes race at his third start so we definitely think he’d get to ten furlongs or possibly beyond,” Kent Jnr said.
“It was really good to see him jump on the bridle, put himself into the race. It was a beautiful ride by Jamie Kah and a nice win.
“Big credit to the staff. For wintertime, he’s got a glowing coat, he’s got a big engine. It was a good job by the horse because he only ran ten days ago and we used this run to get him to the next run which is in two weeks here over a mile. We’ll just take him through his grades but he’s a really nice horse.”
Out of the Zabeel mare Zadancer, Tavidance was bred by Dr Gene Tsoi and Kent Jnr believes the patiently-handled galloper can measure up in the spring.
“Given the timing it would be the back end of spring but we won’t get ahead of ourselves. We’ve given him all the time in the world and we’ll just take our time.”
