Healesville experience or lack thereof is Jeff Britton’s major concern ahead of Sunday afternoon’s Super Sprint Series (350m) – Race 8 at 1.39pm.
Britton will be making a rare visit to Healesville to chase a $3000 winner’s purse with group race performers Mepunga Maggie (Box 2), Weblec Ace (Box 6) and Flossing (Box 7), with only Flossing having race day experience at the straight track venue.
He’s hoping class and strength in numbers will offset a shortage of local knowledge.
“I think it’s very hard to beat the locals at Healesville,” Britton said.
“Flossing has been there before, but I doubt she would remember it. She’s had two starts back after having 10 months off. Weblec Ace and Mepunga Maggie are both coming back after about a month off.
“It’s really a case of dogs that are coming back from injury and are a couple of weeks away from being ready for 500 metres.
“Oakvale Beauty and Mepunga Daniel have both won $100,000 in prizemoney. They’re good dogs but it’s just hard to know how they’ll go” – JEFF BRITTON
“I didn’t have many dogs for Sandown on Sunday because of the way the meetings are being graded and I’ve got a dog to clear after the last called Black Hornet, which ran 24.92sec at Warrnambool about 12 months ago, so I decided I might as well take a few up there.
“It’s more about giving them a run up the straight and looking forward to their next run.”
Britton and partner Angela Langton have a number of other interesting runners engaged, most notably group race winners Oakvale Beauty (Race 6, Box 4) and Mepunga Daniel (Race 10, Box 6), both of which are on debut at Healesville.
Also heading to Healesville are Wise Thunder (Race 3, Box 5), Star Blazer (Race 4, Box 7) and Kazoo (Race 4, Box 8).
“Oakvale Beauty and Mepunga Daniel have both won $100,000 in prizemoney. They’re good dogs but it’s just hard to know how they’ll go,” Britton said.
“I’m hoping Oakvale Beauty might have been up the straight at Murray Bridge with her owner Nathan Wilson.
“Kazoo has at least raced and trialled at Healesville before, but he didn’t go too well at Ballarat on Wednesday night.”
