The Meadows Saturday: Burning Questions

The Meadows will play host to yet another cracking 600m event this evening, headlined by Australian Cup winner Fernando’s Riot.

Anthony Azzopardi’s 27 kilogram pocket rocket is stepping back up to middle-distance ranks for the first time since November, and he’ll take on enigmatic Group 1 winner HERE’S TEARS and the classy LUCY’S MILO, who looks favourably drawn in Box 1.

There’s also plenty of intrigue around a couple of Jason Thompson’s greyhounds tonight as they look to overcome their own respective hurdles.

Here’s what we can look forward to learning tonight…

Q. Can AVALANCHE (Race 5, 7.57pm) break through for his first win at The Meadows?
Thompson boasts an impressive 33.3% winning strike rate at The Meadows, yet his talented star AVALANCHE is winless at the track in seven starts, including six minor placings from six runs over the 525m trip.

Q. Who will win the belter of a middle-distance event between FERNANDO’S RIOT, HERE’S TEARS & LUCY’S MILO (Race 6, 8.20pm)?
The Watchdog is making a relatively brave call in tipping against FERNANDO’S RIOT here, instead selecting LUCY’S MILO, who has won three from six out of Box 1. A whopping 25% of races over 600m at The Meadows have been won by greyhounds exiting the red alley in the past 12 months.

Q. Will NSW star SORRY SCOTT (Race 7, 8.40pm) open her account for new trainer Jason Thompson?
SORRY SCOTT boasts some dazzling middle-distance form in her home state along with a 29.65sec Best of Night run at Wentworth Park, and she’ll be looking to improve on her two defeats since arriving in Victoria.
