Change of scene works well for Jodelin Gal

A change of stable environment seems to have worked the oracle for talented mare Jodelin Gal as she made her way back into the winners’ enclosure at Te Rapa on Saturday when successful in the Waikato Stud Foxbridge Plate Day 26 August (1200m). Having her third start for the Stephen Marsh stable, the seven-year-old daughter of Swiss Ace brought up her seventh career victory, with six of those coming when prepared by Carl Henderson at Te Awamutu. Jodelin Gal had been absent from the highest step on the podium since…

Valley quinella for Tavistock

Former Cambridge Stud stallion Tavistock played a starring role at Moonee Valley on Saturday with a quinella in the Ladbrokes Racing Club Challenger Handicap (2040m), headed by emerging four-year-old Superstock. Unplaced in the Gr.3 Chairman’s Stakes (2000m) during an aborted Gr.1 South Australian Derby (2500m) campaign in the autumn, Superstock has returned bigger, stronger and better in his latest preparation. He has now recorded a win, two seconds, a third and a fourth from six appearances since June, and Saturday’s performance hinted at even more to come. Ridden by Craig…

Royal return for Prince Alby

Prince Alby improved from a game effort in last weekend’s Gr.3 Winter Cup (1600m) at Riccarton to charge home out wide and win the major flat event at the venue on Saturday, the Heatstore Open Handicap (1800m). Prepared at Riverton by Kelvin Tyler, the progressive five-year-old looked a forlorn hope approaching the 600m when back near last as pacemakers Burnvue and Bluey’s Chance set up a pedestrian pace in the contest. Set alight by rider Krishna Mudhoo rounding the home bend, the son of Sacred Falls powered home out wide…

Travelling Kate too tough at Rosehill

New Zealand-bred mare Travelling Kate has put retirement plans on hold with a purple patch of form, which she continued with a hard-fought win in Saturday’s A$160,000 ACY Securities Handicap (1800m) at Rosehill. The well-related daughter of Savabeel has hardly put a foot wrong in the last 12 months, recording two wins and six placings from a dozen starts during that time. After resuming with a fifth at a midweek Canterbury meeting in June, Travelling Kate returned to the same venue for a third placing and a win from two…

Third win this campaign for Galleons Ambassador

By Jonny Turner Galleons Ambassador again showed her troubles are well and truly behind her when running to an easy win at Addington on Friday night. The trotter made it win number three of her latest campaign when sweeping past an intermediate field to score for trainer-driver John Morrison. Galleons Ambassador raced through the summer without quite being able to reach the heights she has recently. Morrison credits the trotter’s brilliant winter form to her putting a series of niggles in the rear-view. “She is going really good now, it’s…
